The growth, availability and access to media and content has enabled a majority of the developed world to be informed and educated on local, national and global events. Often, our knowledge and awareness of current events is limited through complacency and subsequent dependency on more traditional forms of media to keep us informed, therefore, limiting our ability to understand current and potential risks that we may face in the future. Without a broader view, understanding and awareness there is a significant risk that people within the community will not be prepared for any situation or crisis in the future and will be totally reliant on authorities and emergency services for the well-being of their families during those times. However, the reality, depending on the size, scale and type of disaster could significantly limit the capacity of first responders.

‘Preparedness’ should be viewed as a form of ‘Personal Insurance’ for those in any community. Keeping informed through local, mainstream and alternative media provides an opportunity to understand ‘what to prepare for’ and ‘how to keep safe and secure’ during most potential disasters or events, both man made or natural.

Awareness before a crisis?

Disaster, crisis or emergency are all-encompassing words that capture an event of differing perception. Whether it is a severe snow storm or an electrical outage. Whether it is an economic collapse or lack or fuel. Keeping informed through well-balanced media channels will provide you visibility and a picture of how current events are developing and the potential effects on you and your family. News channels, radio stations, internet media content and written print material are abundant and informative. The links on this page provide some suggestions to get started.

Information during a crisis?

Access to information during a crisis, disaster or emergency is essential and can often influence the decisions and choices you may face.

These pages will help you get started and be informed about what you may face and how to prepare, make a plan and build a disaster survival kit. Irrespective of whether you believe that any of the potential risks or disasters may happen, we are all ultimately responsible for the personal safety and well-being of ourselves and our families. We all purchase car insurance – however, nobody wishes to have an accident.

BE INFORMED. BE PREPARED. BE WISE.
