ITK / MINUTOS ALTERNATIVE LOCAL CURRENCY SOLUTION

Bildbeskrivning

Concluded in July 2013, the ISSS project was inspired by Minutos and the ISSS adopted the term  ‘ITK’ which is based on voluntary work, i.e. ‘Ideell Tid Kupong’ (Voluntary Time Coupon).  A mechanism  for the recognition that he/she has provided a service to the community, or an individual in the community, in the form of goods or services. A volunteer hour is worth 60 ITK’s. This is considered by Leader (the EU fund-finance for this project) worth 175: - Swedish Kronor.

When introducing ITK’s a group of people need to meet. Initially, someone needs to organize this. Later, the responsibility is shared and taken over by others. Resources and needs - as well as other practical items to implement the concept are discussed publicly at these ITK meetings. If ITK’s are used outside of the region, they will come back, eventually, to their place of origin, as long as they are still valid.

Each ITK coupon shows the name and address of the person who issued it, its value, date of issue, an abbreviation of the municipality, ZIP code of the issuer - and its validity period (calculated as the end of the issuing year plus two additional years in total). In addition, two underwriters (one female and one male) vouch for every ITK coupon with a rubber stamp and signature. Acceptance will mainly be in the region where it was created, especially providers of goods including agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts and social services

Although the ISSS recognize that ITK in it's own right is not a solution for resilience within a local community, it has gained such interest as an inspiration concept for provoking change in mind-set, from across Sweden and national borders, that ISSS is holding the first ITK Phase 2 Seminar and Workshop November 25th 2013 in Uppsala.
